A. Scope of the training

This training provides the knowledge and skills needed to carry out the functions and responsibilities of an elected Safety and Health Representative.

B. Who is the target audience?

  • Elected Safety and Health Representatives, individuals who want to understand the role of SHE reps.
  • Management, supervisors, employees involved with SHE representatives or their functions

Successful completion of the OHSAS 18001 course (OHS 01) is a prerequisite in qualifying for this course. (NB: This course is offered as a complementary to the OHSAS 18001)

C. Course Objectives

A student who successfully completes this course will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of legislation in the role of a Safety and Health Representative or employee
  2. Communicate information on safety and health matters
  3. Effectively represent employees on safety and health issues
  4. Conduct workplace inspections and investigations
  5. Implement SHE procedures in the workplace
  6. Identify hazards and apply risk management processes
